Private Harry Essam

Enlisted in the 1st Lincolns at the same time as Private Lawson and laid down his life in the same battle. Leaves a widow, living at 48, Tooley Street, Gainsborough. Was wounded and receiving attention in a trench from comrades when a shell came and buried them. Told his comrades before he died that if any parcels came from home they could share the contents.


Private 8227 Harry Essam, 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, son of the late Jesse Essam, husband of Minnie Essam of 48 Tooley Street, Gainsborough, fell at the battle of Hooge on 16th June 1915.
