Sergeant Hamilton Neill
2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles
Hamilton Neill served with the 5th Battalion (Royal South Down Militia), The Royal Irish Rifles from 1901 to 1907, including during the Boer War. He later served with the Special Reserve, in the 5th Battalion, from 1909 and, on the outbreak of war, was posted to the 2nd Battalion. He was wounded on 16 June 1915 at the Battle of Bellewaarde, shot in the left shoulder. After the war, he continued to serve as a regular soldier with The Royal Ulster Rifles and, for six years, was attached to the 2nd Battalion, Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway Regiment.
