Railway Wood

The image above reveals the incline the British troops needed to climb, and of course, the Germans held the high ground giving them an excellent view of the British Lines. To the left is Railway Wood and to the right Royal Engineers Grave and Memorial. This photograph is dated 21 October 2004

The image below is taken from Begijnenbosstraat, this was Cambridge Road c1915. The British front line trenches were dug on the right (East) of this road. Behind the wood lay the Ypres / Roulers Railway, now Zuiderring
